Sports
I grew up in a sports family. If you come to my house, there is most likely a sports game on TV. I've played a numerous number of sports since the age of 5, my first being soccer. Sports are something that I love and something I enjoy writing about in our publication.

A Legacy on the court
I remember receiving the email that Coach Terry English, the founder of Bishop Miege girls basketball, had passed away. Following this, local news media, stories and social media posts flowed out in remembrance of him. I saw these stories and knew I wanted my story about English to stand out and be different, so I interviewed two local high school coaches, that knew English for many years, about their experience and memories with him. It took a lot of effort to interview these coaches. After getting in contact with them through email, I interviewed them each through the phone.

ACED IT
The tennis player with the highest state finish, in 14 years, was announced and girls on the tennis team were talking about her success. As a freshman, Breanna Quigley was the one to beat in a tennis match. After winning second at state and named to the 4A All-State team, I interviewed Quigley and the tennis coach on her achievements. Quigley, being a quiet person, pushed me to ask her many follow-up questions.

Athlete spotlight
For the print edition of the newspaper, I focused on eight winter athletes. Prior to this, the staff had never created something like this. It took a lot of planning to coordinate each interview and photo session. I am proud of how it turned out and I believe it truly showcases each player, representing their sport.

Sticking with it
Though I have played numerous sports growing up, prior to this article, lacrosse was not one of them. I knew nothing about the sport, but did know that I wanted to challenge myself and write an article about the start of the girls lacrosse program at our school. I attended a throw around, talked to the head coach multiple times and interviewed alumni that planned on coming back to help coach.
