DESIGN
I used to not know how to open a spread on Adobe InDesign. I could barely figure out how to place a text box, photo, or know what each of the grids meant, but I made it. I finally figured it out through help from peers and YouTube videos. The old me couldn't open a spread, but the new me finds myself being tedious in making sure everything is aligned and on the page for a reason.
My Designs
During my junior year, the girls' lacrosse program started at Bishop Miege. After writing a story about this, I knew that I wanted side modules on the spread that would captivate and educate the readers. It took me many trials to perfect this layout. I redesigned this multiple times to eliminate white space.
When designing this spread, it took me way longer than anticipated. I thought it would be simple because it was mainly words, but I was wrong. Fitting each of the eight athletes' story took time. I made sure that each story was aligned and evenly spaced.
After writing the rough draft of my faith story, I didn't know how I was going to fill two pages for the spread. After placing the story on the spread, I aligned the "Faces in Youth Groups" at the bottom of the spread. A couple of days later, I heard about the women's prayer group that started and decided to make a side module of it. So, I arrived at school one Friday morning at 7:15 a.m. to interview the members while they met.
Social Media
Before the varsity girls soccer team departed for a weekend tournament in Wichita, KS, I wanted to create a post that wished the team good luck. So, I interviewed a captain and the goalie on their thoughts before the games. Then, I helped another editor create this.
For this graphic was my first time using the shadow effect. After cutting the tennis players out and placing them on a black background, I am proud of how this graphic effect puts emphasis on the players and ties into the headlines.
Web
Header
In November, I increased the number of tabs beneath the header to better fill the open space.
Design Draft
On our website, myself and the other editors created a design draft. The layout of the draft is different than what our website currently looks like.
Favicon
Before attending the 2022 JEA/NSPA conference in St. Louis, I had no idea what a favicon was. After speaking a worker of SNO, I learned what it was. Returning back to school, I knew I wanted to a favicon added to our website. In November, the favicon was added. I never knew such a small icon could bring me so much joy.
